2. INTRODUCTION
Ladoke Akintola University Medical Students Association (LAUMSA) is an association of medical students of Ladoke akintola university of technology (Osogbo and Ogbomoso). The association is under the auspice of Nigeria Medical Students Association (NiMSA).
Aim and Objectives of the Association

Improve the academic and social welfares of its members.

To achieve these, the association engages in many activities and events among which are organization of LAUMSA speaking days where we mobilize our members to educate and sensitize the general public about their health. Provision of LAUMSA ward coats. Marking of world health day programmes such as vector borne diseases day, where we organized a public lecture on control of vector borne diseases in Nigeria. Lecture was delivered by Dr. Adeleye Adeomi consultant public health physician and we used the avenue to distribute insecticide treated mosquito net (ITN) to the general public in Osogbo. The event was reported in our national dailies such as The new telegraph of April 16, 2014 and the national mirror of April 24, 2014.
The Health week programme is a yearly activity of the association. It always serve as means of bringing together, all the medical students in the university, organize health informed programme and deliberate on pertinent issues, aimed at improving the health sector of the states of Osun and Oyo in particular and the country Nigeria at large. The programme always serve as a means to reach out to the public and sensitize them on important issues concerning their health depending on the themes of the programme.
Also, it  always serve as a means to charge the medical students about need to remain relevant amidst the progressing advancing technology in medical practice.
3. PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Health week 2015 which is the associations 11th health week is aimed at improving the general knowledge of the people of Osun and Oyo about hypertension and how to identify early features of the disease which are usually silent but deadly and as a result reduce the grave morbidity and mortality associated with 2nd commonest cause of maternal mortality in Nigeria.
With recent outbreak of Ebola virus diseases in West Africa, we are also aiming to use this programme as an avenue to enlighten the general population on how to prevent and control all forms of communicable diseases in both states and Nigeria at large.
The programme always serves as a medium by which we medical students improve both our academic and social lives.

4. BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Hypertension is according to WHO global status report on non communicable diseases 2010 has the highest prevalence in Africa, 46% of adults aged 25 years and above and this increases with age. Thus for every 3 adults in this country 1 hypertensive is found. This shows how high the disease and its co morbidities such as stroke, myocardial infarction, vascular diseases and chronic kidney disease are in this country. This is however contrary to the believe of majority of the population as hypertension is seen as disease of old age and of developed countries. Despite the extensive research over the past several decades, the etiology of most cases of adult hypertension still remain unknown and control of hypertension is suboptimal in the general population. And also due to the associated morbidity and mortality and cost to the society, preventing and treating hypertension is a public health challenge in both economically developing and developed countries. As significant numbers of individuals with hypertension are unaware of their condition and among those with diagnosed hypertension, treatment is frequently not adequate. Measures are required at population level to prevent the development of hypertension and to improve awareness, treatment and control of hypertension in the community.
Communicable diseases are diseases that are transmissible by infection or contagion or through the agency of a vector. Communicable diseases sometimes called infectious diseases are illnesses caused by organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. Sometimes, the illness is not due to organism itself, but rather a toxin that the organism produces after it has been introduced into a human host. Along with maternal, perinatal and nutritional conditions, communicable diseases account for 67% of all mortality in Nigeria.
Basically a disease is termed communicable if its infectious and can be transmitted from a carrier to a healthy person via direct contact, contact of bodily fluid or even through an indirect contact (like touching things that have been touched by an infected person). Examples of such diseases are HIV/AID, viral hepatitis and Ebola viral disease to mention but few. With recent outbreak of Ebola in west Africa (first cases notified in March 2014), it is of paramount important to sensitize the general population about important measures to prevent and control ebola virus disease and all other forms of communicable diseases in Osun and Oyo state and Nigeria at large.
The poor awareness level of the populace about how communicable diseases can be strongly prevented and controlled by certain measures such as the ‘simplest’ proper hand washing with soap, maintenance of personal hygiene all necessitate a thorough analysis of this issue, hence this project

5. PROJECT DETAILS

The biennial Nigerian Medical Students Association games held admist pump and pagentry between 25th to 31st of August, 2014 at the Imo state University, Owerri. With a 44 team strong contingent comprising of 40 athletes and 4 officials.
Lautech medical students' association put up a strong showing amongst the 12 participating medical schools which were, Anambra State University, Enugu state university, University of Nigeria, University of Port Harcourt, Nnamdi Azikwe University, University of Benin, Ahmadu Bello University, Lagos State University, University of Abuja, University of Calabar, and host school, Imo state University.

                                                 QUIZ OF THE WEEK.

You all remember this Epic match between #teamdammy and #teamIdris

Who won this match and by what goal margin?

The most Appropriate answer gets 1gigabyte of Data.
                                   Have a splendid weekend..........
FROM THE OFFICE OF THE GENERAL SECRETARY

There once was a farmer who grew award-winning
corn. Each year he entered his corn in the state
fair where it won a 'blue ribbon award'.
One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and
learned something interesting about how he grew
it. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared
his seed corn with his neighbors.
"How can you afford to share your best seed corn
with your neighbors when they are entering corn in
competition with yours each year?" the reporter
asked.
"Why sir," said the farmer, "didn't you know? The
wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and
swirls it from field to field. If my neighbors grow
inferior corn, cross-pollination will steadily degrade
the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I
must help my neighbors grow good corn."
He is very much aware of the connectedness of
life. His corn cannot improve unless his neighbor's
corn also improves.
So it is with our lives. Those who choose to live in
peace must help their neighbors to live in peace.
Those who choose to live well must help others to
live well, for the value of a life is measured by the
lives it touches. And those who choose to be
happy must help others to find happiness, for the
welfare of each is bound up with the welfare of all.
I am Olarinde medinat Mosunmola, the general secretary of our great association LAUMSA.
Since the inception of this present administration, Laumsites have enjoyed and are still enjoying the goodies of our  people oriented and goal driven projects.
I have devoted my entire humble self to serving Laumsa and performing my constitutional duties of adequate and comprehensive documentation of the association activities.
I don't need to say much because you all already know that this administration has achieved alot in keeping our electioneering promises. Projects executed so far include; marking of the world health day for the first time in the history of LAUMSA with distribution of free insecticide treated  mosquito nets, thorough cleaning of ogbomoso hostel, reconstruction of LAUMSA notice board at the LAUTECH teaching Hospital  osogbo, provision of customized ward coats at an affordable prize for the first time in the history of LAUMSA as well, sucessful NIMSA games outing with several medals, obtaining  school  identity cards for laumsites that have paid their school fees up to date also for the first time in recent years.
Welfarism of laumsites  in magnificent ways never before experienced in the history of laumsa and many more still unmentioned.
We however have a lot of challenges, but with God on our side, we are summounting them and coming out victorious.
Lastly, I want to urge us all to continue to assist this administration by being more patient and fulfilling our financial responsibilities as i say '' a sese n mu eye bo lapo; ee tii ri nkankan''.We thank you all.
LONG LIVE LAUMSA.
